Let me introduce you to the second essential oils in the Winter Warmer blend, which is a blend of cinnamon, ginger and sweet orange.
Citrus sinensis or Sweet Orange has a fresh sweet zesty fragrance a bit like the taste of freshly squeezed orang juice. The oil is expressed from the skin. When I use it during the darker times of the year I like to use it for it's uplifting properties reminding people of sunshine and warmth. It is a calming oil and can help with stress and nervous tension, especially if one is of the type who tries too hard. Apart from this Sweet Orange is a good oil to help balance your digestive system, it's antispsmodic properties make it a good choice for IBS especially when blended with ginger.
It is a safe oil to use during winter; the rest of the year please be careful and avoid exposure to direct sunlight for up to 48 hours after use. It may increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight and you could burn more easily.
You can use up to eight drops in a bath, for small children no more than four. For the best effect run your bath first before adding and mixing in the essential oil.
To make a massage blend add 5 drops to 10ml of carrier (for small children no more than 3 drops in 20 ml of carrier) and mix well. You can mix it with lotion, cream or vegetable oil such as sunflower or sweet almond.
Tip: Your Winter Warmer blend can be used to help soothe your stomach and digestive system over the forthcomming Christmas period.

Has anyone noticed the clear skies at night lately?
You can see quite a few stars. Apparently winter is the best time to spend star gazing.
Plantes have an influence on our natural rythm and cycles too, not just on nature. Each planet has it's own unique sound and frequency, which can be harnessed for the purpose of healing and aligning us with our own unique rhythm so life can flow more easily.
If you want to know more or if you just want to listen to those planets visit www.planetware.de/octave/tuningforks.html and enjoy!!

What to look out for when buying essential oils
There is a difference between fragrant oils and essential oils. Essential oils are plant extracts; fragrant oils are manmade and have no theraputic value at all. How can you tell the difference between the two? I have in the past seen Aromatherapy Products where it was questionnable if they contained any essential oil at all. It is best not to go by your sense of smell alone. Where ever essential oils are part of a product they will usually be listed by their botanical (latin) names. These names can be found on the labels of genuine essential oils. Also look out for it being 100% as sometimes especially with more expensive oils such as Rose and Neroli you will get them in a 5% or 10% dilution usually in vegetable oil such as jojoba oil. In other words if it is not 100% something has been added and you need to know what that is.
It is best to buy from a reputable supplier such as Quinessence, your local Health Food Shop or Aromatherapist. Anyone you buy from should be able to tell you who their supplier is and where the essential oil comes from.
Bottles containing essential oils need to be dark in colour as they are sensitive to light exposure. They also need to have a dropper. There can be different types of droppers around and some of them drop very quickly which makes it difficult to stick to a safe dilution when blending for massage use. They are fine if you want to use the oil in a burner.
Ideally there would be a sell by date on the packaging. Like all natural products essential ils have a shelf life. Once they are past their sell by date they can still be used in a burner as fragrance, but the theraputic value will have diminished.
