_____________________________________________________

Let me introduce you to the second essential oils in the Winter Warmer blend, which is a blend of cinnamon, ginger and sweet orange.

Citrus sinensis or Sweet Orange has a fresh sweet zesty fragrance a bit like the taste of freshly squeezed orang juice. The oil is expressed from the skin. When I use it during the darker times of the year I like to use it for it's uplifting properties reminding people of sunshine and warmth. It is a calming oil and can help with stress and nervous tension, especially if one is of the type who tries too hard. Apart from this Sweet Orange is a good oil to help balance your digestive system, it's antispsmodic properties make it a good choice for IBS especially when blended with ginger.

It is a safe oil to use during winter; the rest of the year please be careful and avoid exposure to direct sunlight for up to 48 hours after use. It may increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight and you could burn more easily.

You can use up to eight drops in a bath, for small children no more than four. For the best effect run your bath first before adding and mixing in the essential oil.

To make a massage blend add 5 drops to 10ml of carrier (for small children no more than 3 drops in 20 ml of carrier) and mix well. You can mix it with lotion, cream or vegetable oil such as sunflower or sweet almond.

Tip: Your Winter Warmer blend can be used to help soothe your stomach and digestive system over the forthcomming Christmas period.

There is still time to claim your free Winter Warmer Massage Blend. Remember everyone coming for a treatment before Christmas will get one. Contact details at the end of the newsletter.

Cinnamon essential oil costs £2.20 for 5ml and £3.80 for 10ml.

Orange, sweet, essential oil costs £2.20 for 5ml and £3.80 for 10ml and the organic oil costs £2.80 for 5ml and £4.95 for 10ml.

Ginger essential oils costs £3.70 for 5ml and £6.45 for 10ml and the organic oils costs £4.99 for 5ml and £8.70 for 10ml.

Sunflower pure vegetable carrier oil £3.15 for 100ml.

Sweet Almond pure vegetable carrier oil £3.60 for 100ml..

You can buy your essential oils from me and pick it up when you next see me. I am due to place an order on early January 2009 or you can buy them on-line from my new supplier www.quinessence.com. For information on what to look out for when buying essential oils read on.

Has anyone noticed the clear skies at night lately?

You can see quite a few stars. Apparently winter is the best time to spend star gazing.

Plantes have an influence on our natural rythm and cycles too, not just on nature. Each planet has it's own unique sound and frequency, which can be harnessed for the purpose of healing and aligning us with our own unique rhythm so life can flow more easily.

If you want to know more or if you just want to listen to those planets visit www.planetware.de/octave/tuningforks.html and enjoy!!

What to look out for when buying essential oils

There is a difference between fragrant oils and essential oils. Essential oils are plant extracts; fragrant oils are manmade and have no theraputic value at all. How can you tell the difference between the two? I have in the past seen Aromatherapy Products where it was questionnable if they contained any essential oil at all. It is best not to go by your sense of smell alone. Where ever essential oils are part of a product they will usually be listed by their botanical (latin) names. These names can be found on the labels of genuine essential oils. Also look out for it being 100% as sometimes especially with more expensive oils such as Rose and Neroli you will get them in a 5% or 10% dilution usually in vegetable oil such as jojoba oil. In other words if it is not 100% something has been added and you need to know what that is.

It is best to buy from a reputable supplier such as Quinessence, your local Health Food Shop or Aromatherapist. Anyone you buy from should be able to tell you who their supplier is and where the essential oil comes from.

Bottles containing essential oils need to be dark in colour as they are sensitive to light exposure. They also need to have a dropper. There can be different types of droppers around and some of them drop very quickly which makes it difficult to stick to a safe dilution when blending for massage use. They are fine if you want to use the oil in a burner.

Ideally there would be a sell by date on the packaging. Like all natural products essential ils have a shelf life. Once they are past their sell by date they can still be used in a burner as fragrance, but the theraputic value will have diminished.

Feeling Fine - Newsletter 2/11/08

Posted by positive-change on November 19, 2008 at 11:15 AM Comments comments (0)

Hello Everyone,

It is 10 years ago this month since I started up in business as a holistic therapist. To celebrate the occasion each person booking a treatment before christmas will receive a free winter warmer oil blend. The offer starts next week and will run up to Christmas 2008.

Sorry about the mix up in the last newsletter, to make the links easier to recognise I've coloured the text green. Thanks for your feedback. Any other improvements you want me to make, just let me know.

_____________________________________________________

Let's start with introducing one of the essential oils in the Winter Warmer blend, which is a blend of cinnamon, ginger and sweet orange.

Cinnamomum zylanicum has a warm spicy fragrance. The oil is extracted from the leaves through steam destillation. I like to use it during the colder times of the year as it stimulates the circulation and has you feeling warm in no time. It is a stimulating oil and can help sluggish digestion. Cinnamon blends well with citrus oils generally. I love it in the combination with orange and ginger.

You can use up to four drops in a bath. I would not recommend any more drops as it can irritate sensitive skin. For the best effect run your bath first before adding and mixing in the essential oil. I would not recommend this for small children.

To make a massage blend add 4 drops to 10ml of carrier (for small children no more than 1 drop in 20 ml of carrier) and mix well. You can mix it with lotion, cream or vegetable oil such as sunflower or sweet almond. Do not use for babies please.

Tip:For a real Christmas feel add 3 drops to your burner and allow cinnamon's warm and spicy fragrance to make you feel all cosy and relaxed.

Cinnamon essential oil costs £2.20 for 5ml and £3.80 for 10ml.

Ravensara essential oil costs £4.05 for 5ml and £6.95 for 10ml and the organic oil costs £5.25 for 5ml and £9.25 for 10ml.

I am due to place an order on the 23rd November or you can buy them on-line from my new supplier www.quinessence.com. More information on what to look out for when you buy essential oils in your next newsletter.

What's new

Some of you have asked if it is possible to buy vouchers directly from me. Of course it is. Just give me a ring 07815 089 067 and I can have them delivered directly to your door. Here is a quick reminder what I am talking about: Gift vouchers for my treatments are for sale at Anne Roberts Hair & Beauty, Birch Road, Oxton, Tel: 0151 - 653 7979. I've made some beautiful cards to present them in. This could make a very special gift for someone you love and appreciate or for someone to give to you. So why not mention it to your friends and family.

The hand made christmas cards available for sale I mentioned in the last newsletter can now be viewed on-line www.freewebs.com/positive-change/apps/photos/album.jsp?albumID=3357124. They are £2 each or buy 3 for £5.

Resonance Repatterning - the new kid on the block. When someone suggested to me to look into Resonance Repatterning and train in it because "I would be good at it", my first thoughts were 'not another therapy, not more training'. Little did I know at the time how powerful and transformational a journey it would become. Resonance Repatterning is unlike anything else I've come across. It is a process that helps clients to feel safe exploring deep seated emotional issues, beliefs and traumas and to feel better and more relaxed once they leave after their consultation. The initial problem is not a problem anymore. Clients can't even connect to it.

So howis this possible? Most people are aware of what is commonly known as 'aura', our energy field. When weare happy and joyful, it expands, and we feel in tune with our environment. When we are weighed down with a problem this expansion doesn't happen. Through identifying what weighs a client down, what input they need to help their energy expand and giving them that input at the right time a person can feel almost instantly happier, more joyful and more relaxed. Sometimes even physical symptoms can ease. I am speaking here from my own personal experience, where Resonance Repatterning helped clear the eczema I used to suffer from, and client observations, a headache, a niggling shoulder pain, an upset stomach and tiredness to name just a few.

Consultations can be one to one in person or by tepelphone and last 1½ hours and cost £65. Special offer for readers of this newsletter only £45 (offer code RR45211). Offer lasts until Cristmas 2008 and you can have as many treatments as you want. To book your appointment give me a ring on 07815 089 067 and remember to quote RR45211 to get the special offer discount.

Hello Everyone,

Finally, here it is - my newsletter, packed with information about essential oils, workshops and anything new that might interest you.

_____________________________________________________

As the cold of autumn and winter descends on us, so do the bugs that cause our noses to run and our eyes to water. Having just come out of one of these episodes myself, I thought it might be an idea to introduce you to my favourite 'cold busting' essential oil Ravensara.

Ravensara Aromatica is an oil extracted through steam destillation from the Ravensare tree in Madagascar where it is refered to as the oil that heals. It has very good antiseptc properties similar to those of Tea Tree essential oil, yet it is much gentler. Its smell is similar to Eucalyptus, but not as punget. Its gentleness makes it suitable for use with childeren. I tend to use it at the first sign of a cold, and it usually helps to nip it in the bud. It is also a good pick me up when you feel exhausted and tired.

You can use up to eight drops in a bath (for small children no more than three, I would recommend to mix the three drops in a tablespoon of milk before adding to the bath water). For the best effect run your bath first before adding and mixing in the essential oil.

For a steam inhalation add one drop to boiling water.

To make a chest rub add 4 drops to 10ml of carrier (for small children no more than 2 drops) and mix well. You can mix it with lotion, cream or vegetable oil such as sunflower or sweet almond. For babies please use 2 drops in 50ml of carrier.

Tip:For a good night's sleep once you have a cold, place a bowl of boiling water with 4 - 6 drops of Ravensara added in you bedroom before going to sleep. It will help to keep your nose clear and ease your breathing. In a small room or for use with children and babies 1-2 drops will be sufficient

At last it is official!!!

What cat lovers always knew - cat purr is good for you.

As you probably all know I love anything feline, and I am absolutely besotted with our feline friend Boris who decided years ago to share his life with us. Yes he wanted to live with us and used all his charm to convince us to choose him rather than any of the other cats in the rescue place.

After hearing first of the benefits of cat purr from Anne and Jack Stewart, www.healingthespirit.eu, it has now been confirmed more officially. The BBC's ONE SHOW had a feature on it on Tuesday 28th October. The frequency of cat purr is one that is associated with tissue growth and bone healing, never mind the deep relaxation it gives you.

I have been cheeky and used a CD called 'Relax with cats' to enhance the effects of my massage. So far the comments have been very positive.
